The Thiksey Gustor Festival is a vibrant Buddhist celebration held at Thiksey Monastery. In 2026, the festival will be celebrated on October 28–29, attracting devotees and travelers alike. Known for its sacred Cham dances, monks perform in colorful costumes and masks symbolizing the victory of good over evil. A key highlight is the ritual destruction of an effigy representing negativity, marking spiritual purification. Set against the stunning Himalayan backdrop, the festival offers a unique glimpse into Ladakh’s rich culture and traditions. ✨

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization

Upon arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to Karma Lodge. Enjoy a welcome tea/coffee.

The afternoon is reserved for acclimatization to the high altitude. Later, visit Shanti Stupa for panoramic views and stroll through Leh Market.

Overnight Stay: Leh – Karma Lodge

Day 2: Leh Local Sightseeing

Distance: Approx. 70–80 km | Duration: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, explore Leh’s local attractions:

• Shey Palace 
• Thiksey Monastery 
• Hemis Monastery 
• Sindhu Ghat 

Return to Leh by afternoon and relax at the hotel.

Day 3: Thiksey Gustor Festival – Day 1

Distance: 20 km one way | Duration: 45 minutes

After breakfast, drive to Thiksey Monastery to witness the first day of the Thiksey Gustor Mask Dance Festival. Monks perform sacred Cham dances in colorful costumes and masks, depicting the triumph of good over evil.

Return to Leh by evening.

Day 4: Thiksey Gustor Festival – Day 2

Distance: 20 km one way | Duration: 45 minutes

Spend the day experiencing the second day of the festival. Witness the traditional rituals, the ceremonial destruction of effigies symbolizing negativity, and the lively atmosphere in the monastery courtyard.

Return to Leh by evening.

Day 5: Leh to Nubra Valley (Hunder)

Distance: 125 km | Duration: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley via the iconic Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft). Stop for panoramic photography and breathtaking views.

Visit:

• Diskit Monastery 
• 100-ft Maitreya Buddha Statue 
• Hunder Sand Dunes (optional double-humped camel ride) 

Overnight Stay: Nubra Valley – Hotel

Day 6: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

Distance: 160 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

After breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake via the scenic Shyok Valley route.

Arrive by afternoon, check into your lakeside camp/resort, and enjoy lunch. Spend the evening walking along the lakeshore and admiring the changing colors of the lake.

Overnight Stay: Pangong Lake – Camp/Resort

Day 7: Pangong Lake to Leh

Distance: 140 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

Early morning, enjoy sunrise over Pangong Lake, followed by breakfast. Drive back to Leh via Chang La Pass (17,590 ft).

En route, visit:

• Thiksey Monastery 
• Rancho School (Druk Padma Karpo) 
• Sindhu Ghat 

Arrive in Leh by evening.

Day 8: Departure from Leh
