The Lamayuru Mask Dance Festival (Yuru Kabgyat) is a vibrant and spiritually significant celebration held at Lamayuru Monastery. In 2026, the festival will be celebrated on June 13–14, attracting devotees and travelers alike. Dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava, the festival is renowned for its sacred Cham dances, where monks perform in colorful costumes and elaborate masks symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Set against the unique “Moonland” landscape, it offers a captivating blend of spirituality, culture, and tradition, making it a must-experience event in Ladakh. ✨

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization

Airport: Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to Karma Lodge. Enjoy a welcome tea/coffee.

The day is reserved for rest and acclimatization to the high altitude. In the afternoon (around 3:30 PM), visit Shanti Stupa and explore the vibrant Leh Market.

Overnight Stay: Leh – Karma Lodge

Day 2: Leh Local Sightseeing

Distance: 70–80 km | Duration: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, proceed for local sightseeing around Leh. Visit:

• Shey Palace 
• Thiksey Monastery 
• Hemis Monastery 
• Sindhu Ghat 

Enjoy panoramic views, cultural exploration, and photography opportunities. Return to Leh by afternoon and relax.

Overnight Stay: Leh – Karma Lodge

Day 3: Leh to Lamayuru – Festival Experience (Day 1)

Distance: 115 km | Duration: 3–4 hours

After breakfast, drive towards Lamayuru, one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, known for its unique “Moonland” landscape.

En route, visit:

• Magnetic Hill 
• Indus & Zanskar River Confluence 
• Basgo Palace ruins 

Arrive at Lamayuru Monastery and attend the first day of the Lamayuru Mask Dance Festival (Yuru Kabgyat). Witness sacred Cham dances, spiritual rituals, and vibrant cultural performances.

Day 4: Lamayuru Festival (Day 2)

Distance: Local | Duration: Full Day

Spend the day attending the second day of the festival. Immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere, observe traditional rituals, and capture the colorful masked dances performed by monks.

Enjoy the unique setting of Lamayuru dramatic landscape.

Day 5: Lamayuru to Nubra Valley (via Leh & Khardung La Pass)

Distance: 240 km | Duration: 7–8 hours

After early breakfast, drive back towards Leh and continue to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft).

Enjoy breathtaking mountain views and stop for photography.

Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, visit:

• Diskit Monastery 
• Maitreya Buddha Statue 
• Hunder Sand Dunes (optional camel ride)

Day 6: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake (via Shyok Valley)

Distance: 160 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

After breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake via the scenic Shyok Valley route.

Arrive by afternoon and check into your camp/resort. Enjoy lunch and spend time by the lakeside, witnessing the changing colors of the lake.

Day 7: Pangong Lake to Leh (via Chang La Pass)

Distance: 140 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

Early morning, enjoy the beautiful sunrise at Pangong Lake, followed by breakfast.

Drive back to Leh via Chang La Pass (17,590 ft).

En route, visit:

• Thiksey Monastery 
• Druk Padma Karpo School (Rancho School) 
• Sindhu Ghat 

Arrive in Leh by evening.

Day 8: Departure from Leh
